Bryce Courtenay book package #3 revealed!
As a Christmas present to myself, I took the opportunity to purchase three book packages from Christine Courtenay, the wife of one of my all-time favourite authors, Bryce Courtenay. The packages are from the Courtenay personal archives, and along with novels include various book releases and covers, audiobook versions, promotional material and even book launch invitations.
I have been opening the book packages in random order.
Book package #3 is… [drum roll]:

One of my favourite aspects of Bryce’s writing is his innate ability to take the reader on a vivid journey, so by the end of the story you feel as if you know the characters intimately, like you were right there alongside them as they experienced all of the highs and lows. This epic trilogy has the added treat of spanning multiple generations, and I really resonated with how each person’s actions impacted those who came after. The Potato Factory begins in early 19th century England and follows the lives of Ikey Solomon and his mistress Mary Abacus, who are transported as convicts to Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania, Australia). It then follows on with the story of Tommo and Hawk, Ikey and Mary’s adopted sons, whose adventures include fighting in the Maori wars. The theme of war continues in Solomon’s Song as the family not only contend with living in the midst of World War I, but also grapple with their own war within. Prepare to be taken on a powerful journey you’ll never forget!
